LU Gupshup (LUGUPSHUP.COM) is an independent, student-run information portal for students of the University of Lucknow. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it and how we protect it.

1. We are not the official university website

LU Gupshup is not owned, run or endorsed by the University of Lucknow. Notices shown here are taken from the university's public website for student convenience, without any change. Information may change at any time, so please always verify important dates and details on the official University of Lucknow website or with the concerned department.

2. Information we collect

• Browsing the website: We do not ask for your name, phone number or email to read notices. Like every website, our hosting server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, date and time) for security and to keep the site running.
• Café Student Discount Pass: When you create a pass, we collect your name and, if you choose, your course / department. We also store the date and time of creation and a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, which only helps us limit how many passes one device can create. We do not store your actual IP address with the pass.
• Pass verification: When a partner café verifies your pass, we record the date and time it was redeemed.

3. Why we use it

• To create your pass and let our partner café check that it is genuine and unused.
• To prevent misuse (fake passes, the same pass used twice, too many passes from one device).
• To keep the website secure and working properly.

We never sell or rent your information and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Who can see it

• The name and course on your pass are visible to anyone you show the pass to, and to our partner café staff when they scan it.
• Our team can see pass records to handle problems.
• We share information with authorities only if required by law.

5. How long we keep it

Pass records are automatically deleted 90 days after the pass is created. Server logs are kept as per our hosting provider's standard period.

6. Cookies

We use only small session cookies needed for logging in to our admin pages and the café verification page. They contain no personal information and are removed when the browser is closed. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Third-party services

Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts and small scripts (for QR codes and saving the pass as an image) from cdnjs (Cloudflare). These services may receive your IP address when the page loads, as per their own privacy policies. Links to social media (Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp) open those services, which have their own privacy policies.

8. Security

Data files are protected from direct public access, admin pages are password-protected and passes are checked on our server. No method of storing data online is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.

9. Your choices

You can ask us to delete your pass record at any time, or ask what information we hold about you, by writing to us at the email below. Please include your pass number.

10. Children

This website is meant for university students. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18 for the discount pass.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will show when it was last changed.
